Beasts coming back?

A box set of Beasts of Bourbons albums is coming down the pipeline. My intel is that the master tapes were saved from a rubbish tip by a sharp-eyed soul. Rumour has it that the original line-up (or close to it) will tour on the back of it. I guess they'd have to play this.

Beasts box in pipeline

Thanks to reader Dermott Kelly who twigged me to an email from Australian label
Inertia announcing their entry to Wikipedia and mentioning a spin-off label, Provenance. Provenance intends "to reissue and export important, classic and rare Australian and New Zealand music...Provenance's first release is a limited edition boxset that reissues the first three Beasts of Bourbon albums".

One schooner of new coming right up, Dermott.

Beasts in Bilbao (R.I.P.)

Yes, it's true. The Beasts of Bourbon have almost certainly shuffled off their mortal coil in a collective sense, breaking up on the eve of their final European tour show in Germany. The outlook for another reformation is grim although no-one seems to be saying anything officially. Here's some footage from a happier leg of the tour in Spain, some hotel hi-jinks from the band we thought might not die.

Kim Salmon on the Science of Being a Beast

There's a great retrospective interview with Kim Salmon by the I-94 Bar's Patrick Emery at the online version of Mess and Noise magazine.

We passed on this one as I was already speaking to Kim regarding the Scientists shows and live album - and the tape clagged out so some of the best stuff went unreported. More's the pity we didn't just run Patrick's as it's one of the most complete career pieces Mr Salmon's done. He doesn't quite wade back into the void that is the relationship between him and his old band the Beasts of Bourbon, but you can read a lot into his comments. Catch it here.
